When it comes to illnesses, most people want to try to prevent them. Whether it is the flu, a cold or even allergies, most people would rather prevent the aches and pains that come with illness than have to take medicine to get over it.

The best way to prevent illness is to be vaccinated from it. Even in infancy, doctors and parents know that the best way to keep their baby from getting once deadly diseases. At birth, children should receive the first of three hepatitis B vaccines. There is a schedule that suggests other vaccines to be give until the age of six. Those vaccines include shots for the MMR vaccine, the rotavirus vaccine; the pneumococcal vaccine, the influenza vaccine, the Varicella vaccine, the hepatitis A vaccine and the meningococcal vaccine. Lately, there has been a push for children and pregnant women to be vaccinated against the swine flu. Vaccines are the best way to prevent illness. They allow your body to recognize the infecting organism and fight back.

There are other precautions on top of vaccines that you can take. Taking vitamin supplements will help prevent against the common cold. You can take an everyday vitamin or you can take tablets of individual vitamins. Taking vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, vitamin B, folic acid and Echinacea pills everyday can help reduce symptoms of the common cold and improve your immune system.

Eating well will also allow your body to work properly. Making sure that you get the right amount of fruits, vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates will keep your body in top shape to fight against foreign bodies that may enter.
